Fashion Focus: Inverted Triangle Pt. 1

Hello Lovlies! It's time for another Fashion Focus!

When you look in the mirror, does your body shape look like a strawberry or a cone?
- If you answered yes, then you have an inverted triangle shape.

Inverted Triangle Characteristics
  • Broad shoulders and/or bust
  • Slight waist definition
  • Hips slimmer than shoulders
  • Seat can be flat

You want to draw attention to the bottom half of your body instead of emphasizing your upper body.

If you of have this shape, one of the best ways to have fun with your figure is to show off your legs while defining your waist.

However, don't go with a skirt that is too short or else you will appear top-heavy.

Balancing Tricks
  • Define the waist
  • Reinforce the vertical axis
  • Add volume on the bottom

Celebrities with an Inverted Triangle Shape:

1) Kate Winselt      2) Sigourney Weaver    3) Angelina Jolie

Inverted Triangle Jackets

     1) Small Lapel                           2) Single Button                            3) Ends at Hip

Inverted Triangle Tops

Inverted Triangle Dresses

Closet Craze: Neapolitan Flavor

This is a completely Nordstrom inspired outfit, so I cannot take credit for dreaming up this elegant ensemble.

What I love about this outfit is that while the woven top and flowy skirt are the perfect pair for summer time, the soft colors work together to make this a transition outfit for fall.

This look has such a classy look and feel that makes me feel feminine and beautiful. And as my friend/photographer mention, it looks like a neapolitan ice cream sandwich.

Fashion on the Fringe

I'd never thought I'd get into the bohemian vibe, which is more commonly known as "Boho-Chic," but lately I've been finding myself loving this style more and more. What I admire most about this free-spirited fashion trend is that it you can create an effortless look that is chic with a touch of hippie flare.

The two style elements that I've been obsessed with the most are fringe and floppy hats.

If you aren't completely into this style like I am, fringe cardigans and accessories are the perfect pieces to give your outfit a stylish bohemian look without going overboard. And you can never go wrong with investing in a floppy hat to give your ensemble a classy touch.

Here are some simple ways to wear fringe:

(P.S. You get to see a piece that's already in my closet. Can you guess what it is?)

Closet Craze: Beach Chic

Welcome to my closet! Well... not really, but this is my first Closet Craze outfit directly from my closet. I chose this ensemble because a black and white combo is a classy look that will never go out of style.

I'm obsessed with maxi skirts and summer hats. If you are looking for a transitioning outfit to take you from summer to fall, invest in a maxi skirt (if you already haven't), a stylish shall and a panama hat.

This style is good for keeping cool on those last few hot summer days while staying on trend for the upcoming fall season.

What I'm Wearing:
  1. Panama Hat
  2. Top & Skirt from Express
  3. Shall - Nordstrom's BP

Last week I started talking about an hourglass shape and the types of tops, jackets and dresses that worked best. So if you missed last week's post, click here to read about my style tips!

What I'm covering today:
  • Skirts

* Style Tip: For those who are short-waisted like me, do not tuck your shirt in or else it will cut you in half causing you to look shorter & call attention to your mid-section.
- Advice from Tim Gunn, fashion consultant & TV personality

Hourglass Shape - Pants

                  Pants:  1)  High-waisted Pant  2) Slightly Wider Trouser 3) High-rise Denim                                                4) Flare Denim  5) Slim/Straight Leg Denim
