Ready for a Fashion Challenge
I'm a PR graduate with a passion for classy style. I have taken on the challenge of writing a blog that focuses on style tips for curvy women as well as women with other body types. I happen to be a curvy woman myself who has been obsessed with fashion for as long as I can remember.
Your probably thinking, "What does she know about fashion if she doesn't have a background in it?" While I may not be a fashion expert, I work in the retail industry and I'm constantly watching what the current trends are for the season. With a little research and my personal experience, my ultimate goal is to help women feel that they can embrace their body while accentuating their greatest assets in the latest styles.
Who I Am
I'm a 5' 3 1/2" (I'm proud of that half-inch) short-waisted woman who was blessed with curves thanks to mother nature along with thunder thighs that I earned from spending hours in an ice rink as a figure skater.
When I was a teenager, I was required to wear a uniform to school. The kids would always give me a hard time because my skirt was so high up on my waist that it never looked like how the other girls wore their skirts. No matter how hard I tugged my skirt to make it lower on my waist, it just went right back to where it was. It was hard dealing with the fact that I was never going to look like the other girls.
And in the world of competitive figure skating, everything from your the music for your routine to your weight can play a big factor in the success of your performance. While I never had problems with my weight affecting my performance, I was always a little bit thicker and more muscular than the other girls at the ice rink. Some of the girls would even make fun of my weight, which always made me feel like I was "fat." And in reality, I was never really fat.
Fall in Love with Your Body
The main point of these stories is that like most woman, I have had body-image issues since I was a young girl. While it's never been easy, I've had to learn that I don't have to be skinny to feel good about myself.
Even when I was in college and I belonged to a sorority that encouraged girls to have a positive body image, I still struggled with my body issues. It was hard to accept that I didn't always have the time to be active because I was so focused on doing well in school.
One of the ways I have found the confidence to feel good about myself is through my love of fashion. I use current trends and classic styles that are meant to flatter my body type and give me that positive boost every day.
I just want to be clear that fashion is not the only method to that can help people believe that they are beautiful.
Since I graduated from college, I have become a gym enthusiast who still loves her food. I work hard to tone what I like to call "my little in the middle" and I'm still learning to embrace the curves I was blessed with.
I'm here to help other woman fall in love with the trends that will make them look and feel like they've just stepped out of a photo shoot.
