Fashion Focus - Hourglass Shape Pt. 1

Curves are the new BLACK!

Not only are we seeing more curvy figures walking the red carpet in Hollywood, but fashion designers across the world are catching on to this growing trend and using curvy models to wear their designs.

What I love about curves is that there isn't one defined body shape that classifies a woman as "curvy."
Whether you have an hourglass figure, a pear or an apple shape, there are many styles to emphasize your curves to help you feel sexy and confident!

Today, I'm focusing on is the hourglass shape.

Hourglass Shape Characteristics:
  • Shoulders & Hips are roughly the same size
  • Waist is defined (About 8" smaller than the bust)
  • Shapely Legs

You want to draw attention to your defined waist & accentuate your curves without making your hips and shoulders seem larger.

Balancing Tricks:
  • Play up shoulders and hips in contrast to the waist
  • Prepare to tailor: Have your clothes taken in at the waist, even if the fit at the shoulders & hips is good, to take full advantage of your figure

Celebrities with an Hourglass Shape:

1) Sofia Vergara    2) Marilyn Monroe    3) Katherine Heigl

Dresses:  1) Wrap Dress  2) Strapless Dress with Hem at Knees  3) Halter Dress

Trend Watch - Fall 2013 Color Guide

Hello lovlies!

With the Fall season around the corner, not only will the leaves be changing, but fashion trends will ease away from dressing for the summer heat and breeze into the cool and colorful autumn days.

The who's who of fashion have spoken and it looks like Fall 2013 will allow fashionistas everywhere to experiment with color. According to Pantone, a premier company that provides a color systems for designers across the industries, and a handful of the top fashion designers, we can expect vibrant and warm colors to reflect our moods for the fall.

Take a look at the Pantone Fashion Color Report for more details on the many moods of fall.

Here are some Fall 2013 colors to be on the look for:

Use Color to Express Your Mood
Fashion gives us an amazing ability to express our mood when we look into our closets every day to choose that perfect outfit. Whether you are dressing up to look sophisticated for a work presentation or dressing down to enjoy your weekends, it's important to know what colors will help you convey your mood.

Here are my suggestions:

Basic neutral colors can allow an outfit to have a soft elegance, especially when light colors such as light gray and white are paired together. If you are going for a more glamorous look, pair deep browns with rich and vibrant colors such as forest green or fiery red.

Rich cool colors like acai purple or emerald green are statement colors that will demand people's attention. For a sophisticated look, I suggest that you use an acai purple because it is a bold and classic color that will also flatter any woman's shape next to black.

Warm colors will give your outfit a dramatic look that's powerful and flirty. Your outfit will exude confidence when you wear a vivacious fuchsia or a flirty samba red. My advice for all you fashionistas is to use caution when mixing warm colors together or else your outfit may look ready for spring instead of fall.

Black is the perfect color to help balance your outfit to fit your mood. It's also the best color to help flatter any body type. I wear this color like a second skin because it can make my outfit a classy creation or an edgy ensemble.

My last bit of advice when it comes to dressing for your mood is to have fun and play with the color in your closet. Don't be afraid to mix within the fall color palette so that you can create that perfect outfit that not only is fashion forward, but helps you feel good about yourself.

Welcome to Curve your Fashion!

Follow my blog with Bloglovin

Welcome to my very first fashion blog and thanks for watching my welcome video!

I'm excited to get this blog started and to share it with my readers. While I'm new to the fashion blog scene, I've had the opportunity to write blogs about more serious topics in the past. But nothing excites me more than writing about fashion and how you use the latest trends to compliment your body type.

I'm a curvy girl who has been in love with all things fashion for as long as I can remember. I work in the retail industry and my love for dressing up has only grown stronger. While I love fashion, I also love to write about topics that I'm passionate about. So why not express my love of fashion through my writing?

What you can look forward to seeing in the future:
  • Fall trend color guide
  • Fall outfit ideas and tips
  • What are the major body types
  • Bi-weekly/Weekly outfits courtesy of my closet
  • Much much more!
My goal is to keep this blog fun while I insert a little educational material for those who want some help finding styles that flatter their body type.

The main focus of this blog will be about styles that compliment a curvy figure, but I also plan to write for those who have other body types while using current fashion trends to help.

If you have any suggestions about what you'd like to read about, please don't hesitate to leave a comment.
